Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation is very grateful for the participation of the donors whose gifts at every level make this project possible. We provide several opportunities to express our appreciation for this generosity at the Pacific Coast Immigration Center itself, through various digital media and other collateral materials, and at various special events.
At the Pacific Coast Immigration Center
By special arrangement with California State Parks, donors to the campaign for completion of the Hospital restoration and for the construction and installation of exhibits, giving at the $5,000 level and above, will be acknowledged in an installation on the east wall of the Hospital visitor reception area. This room sits between the Two Doors that enter from the front porch – and which have inspired the theme of the campaign.
Not the traditional Honor Wall as a simple long list of names at giving levels, instead this recognition opportunity will be designed by the firm creating the exhibits and interpretive materials planned for the Center. It will make use of video and other new media, and tell the donor’s own immigration story.
The impact on the visitor will be a powerful interpretive experience, in addition to donor recognition. For donors, this interpretive/recognition element will include the donor’s preferred name, a reference to the giving level, and a brief mention of an immigration story of interest to the donor. These stories could reflect the donor’s own immigration experience or an experience relevant to the gift.
One concept we are pursuing is that the individual videos will be shown in a loop as visits enter the room. Donors at the higher levels will be given a longer and more frequently shown video. We are also considering providing supportive videos that describe the specific cultural context that describes that was occurring in the country of origin of each major immigrant group at the time that caused them to leave for America.
Finally, each story on the Donor Recognition Wall can be amplified and increased in length and depth through an online linkage to the Foundation’s website. Those wishing more detail about any individual donor’s story can find it online, either while visiting the site or in their home or office.
All stories are subject to review by California State Parks, Angel Island State Park, and Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation.
Through Digital Media and other Collateral
A centerpiece of the exhibition program will be an online program. Donors in the Leadership Circle (gifts of $50,000 and above — see listing below) will be acknowledged in perpetuity with reference to their particular sponsorship interest (eg: all or major portion of an exhibition, construction costs for finishing a room, etc).
Additionally, throughout the campaign AIISF will maintain a special campaign website which will feature an Honor Roll celebrating all donors to the campaign. All donors will be listed according to their individual giving levels. Donors at the $1,000 level and above will be announced in AIISF’s monthly electronic eNewsletter.
