Angel Island Mosaic Poster Exhibition

AIISF has created a poster exhibition based on Angel Island Mosaic: Exploring the Lives of Angel Island Immigrants. This exhibit explores the individual stories of immigrants who were detained on Angel Island. Between 1910 and 1940, over 550,000 people arrived in the United States through the Port of San Francisco. The US government used discriminatory immigration laws to detain over 300,000 of these new arrivals at the Angel Island Immigration Station.

Our poster exhibition presents the personal narratives of eight Angel Island immigrants from diverse backgrounds. Their stories reveal how race, class, and gender intersected with historical events in the early 20th century to shape both the immigration process and life in the US after.

The poster exhibit is a portable teaching resource that provides a platform for dialogue and civic engagement. We encourage you to use this resource in your classroom or community group alongside additional curriculum about the Angel Island Immigration Station.
