The Immigration Station: 110 Years of History
The Angel Island Immigration Station opened on January 21, 1910. It was one of nineteen immigration stations operating around the United States in the early twentieth century. Over its thirty-year history, half a million people either entered or departed the country through Angel Island.
In 2010, President Barack Obama signed a proclamation declaring January 21st as National Angel Island Day. On this day we take time to remember the stories, events, and people from the Immigration Station's 110-year history.
